SAMAG has been manufacturing machine tools on its present site since the 19th century and is closely linked to the history of the town of Saalfeld and its industrial development. A number of small companies were founded in the town, one of which was Auerbach & Scheibe, since this time the company has significantly grown into today's SAMAG.
Soon after its foundation the company became well known as a manufacturer of  pillar drilling machines and special purpose machines.
